| Description |
Greenwood Pottery Company "Uncle Sam" pitcher with an animal handle and a walrus spout, ca. 1885. One side depicts a scene from a Bret Harte story, while the other depicts Uncle Sam and a king. This piece is very similar to a Union Porcelain Company pitcher made around 1875. See pages 182 - 184 of Alice Cooney Frelinghuysen's American Porcelain, 1770-1920 (1989) for comparison pieces by the Union Porcelain Company.
Marked "GPC" on the base and side.
10 1/4" (26 cm) W; 8 1/2" (21 cm) H
Condition: There is a hairline spider crack on base (see the third photo). Otherwise, the piece is in very good condition.
